  • Work a consistent full-time, weekday schedule (Monday-Friday 7:15 AM - 4:00 PM) with ample opportunities for overtime.

To be a good fit for the Stone Setter opportunity, you will need:
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as a stone setter with a combination of an apprenticeship and/or formal training Quick question for you - click here
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent, plus up to one year of other schooling (DEP) 
  • ​Ability to work effectively under pressure; must be able to work quickly to produce high-quality products
  • Knowledge of other jewellery production aspect
  • Good eyesight and hand-eye coordination; dexterity; an aptitude for hands-on manufacturing related work
  • Excellent attention to detail with extreme accuracy and ingenuity in building specialized tools required
  • Knowledge of GRS Gravermax machine preferred

Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, Production Development and Costing, as Stone Setter, you will use hand tools to set precious, semi-precious, or ornamental stones in rings, charms, pendants, and other jewelled items. You will cut and file each setting to accommodate stones, using files, chisels, and hand or electric drills. You will position stones in the setting and fix them in place by pressing prongs, raising the retaining metal ridge, or by tapping the edges of the setting with a setting tool and hammer, forcing metal against the stones. You will smooth the edges, using an emery file and pointed steel tool, and examine the union of the stone and setting, using a magnifying glass. You may also drill holes in settings preparatory to setting stones in the piece and may also replace stones in rings. Work may be on line where tasks vary as different models of the same article move along line. The Stone Setter position is a manual-handling, labor-intensive job requiring dexterity, attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Quick question for you - click here

Major responsibilities and duties will include:

  • ​Responsibility for rong setting, pave setting, channel setting, illusion setting and cup setting for different shapes of gemstones.
  • Analysing and solving the problems pertaining to setting precious and semi-precious stones
  • Maintaining the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and following prescribed safety regulations
  • May occasionally verify the quality of stone and size
  • Completing tasks as directed by manufacturing schedules with minimum supervision.
